Abstract

Digitalization has profoundly transformed interpersonal communication. Traditional face-to-face interactions have decreased, with written and verbal communication increasingly taking place through digital platforms. This paper examines the effects of digitalization on both written and verbal communication and explores how these changes affect interpersonal relationships. Digital communication tools, such as messaging apps, social media, and video calls, offer convenience, speed, and accessibility, but they also introduce challenges. The absence of non-verbal cues in digital communication can lead to misunderstandings, emotional disconnect, and a decrease in the depth of interactions. Moreover, the overreliance on digital tools can create feelings of social isolation and digital burnout. Despite these drawbacks, digital communication enables individuals to stay connected across distances, making it invaluable for long-distance relationships and in professional contexts. The paper discusses both the positive and negative aspects of digital communication and highlights the importance of mindful and balanced usage of these tools in maintaining healthy relationships. Digital communication can enhance interactions when used thoughtfully, but it is crucial to be aware of its limitations in fostering meaningful connections. Ultimately, the goal is to find a balance between digital and face-to-face communication to preserve emotional intimacy, empathy, and understanding in relationships.
