A Literature Review on Glocalizing EFL Curriculum

Integration of glocalization into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) curriculum is an evolving approach which balances the global contexts with the local cultural contexts. This review article examines the key components of a curriculum in the field of EFL, focusing on goals and objectives, content, learning and teaching processes, and assessment. The article explores the worldwide literature to offer a way to glocalize EFL curriculum in non-English speaking countries. Combining global issues with local elements and incorporating these into EFL curriculum has many advantages underestimated. In addition to academic success and its effect on learning, glocalization is also important for the cultural identities of a nation. However, studies on glocalization of EFL curriculum is somehow limited. Therefore, by reviewing the current literature on glocalized EFL programs, this article highlights the potential of glocalization to create a more inclusive and effective language learning environment with major components of the curriculum design.
