A Scientometric Analysis of Carol A. Chapelle’s Contributions to Language Assessment and Learning

Abstract

Second language acquisition (SLA), assessment, and computer-assisted language learning (CALL) are significant areas in the language learning context. Within this scope, Carol A. Chapelle’s studies have gained attraction and become enlightening in a research context. Thus, there is a need to understand how Charol A. Chapelle’s research has contributed to language assessment, learning, and CALL. This study aims to explore her contributions to the related fields using an analysis including research trends, topics, documents, sources, and collaboration. Within the scope of the scientometric approach, the study examines 81 papers from the Web of Science (WOS) database. The study concludes that Chapelle shows significant academic output regarding language testing, learning, and CALL and that her publications are widely distributed across different academic sources, indicating relevance to the mentioned research fields. It was also concluded that her impact highlights the significance of work in language assessment and testing, a central role in CALL.
